Homework

Find a short clip of a television drama on youtube and write an analysis of any one or two of the micro elements discused today. Start by describing what happens to the clip. Highlight all key termanology in a different colour. My chosen clip is from a TV drama called waterloo road. It consists of two girls hanging around in school toilets with drugs. Amy brings in drugs and asks if Lauren wants to smoke them around her house, she says yes. Sam comes into the toilets and catches them with the drugs and confronts her friend. They argue over it and then she walks off. The clip starts off with a bird’s eye view of the toilets until it gets to the cubicle with the girls in. It cuts to Laurens face and then pans left to show Amy’s face and then changes to a two shot of them both. The camera pans from left to right each time one of them speaks to show which character is saying the dialogue. It then goes back up to a bird’s eye view shot to show the view point of Sam and then to a worms eye view to show the view point of Amy and Lauren. It then goes to over the shoulder shots to show which character is speaking. The toilets look like typical school toilets with graffiti on the cubicle walls and toilet roll on the floor to make it look like the students don’t respect their environment. The characters are wearing school uniform as they are in school; the only prop I can see is the bag with drugs in. There is non-diegetic sound throughout this clip; the only sound the characters can hear is the dialogue the audience can hear the music and dialogue. I think that the characters are arranged in a certain way when they are arguing. Lauren and Amy are standing next to each other shoulder to shoulder to show that they are against Sam who is on her own opposite them.
